[27:7]  1 sn Of course, he means like his enemy when he is judged, not when he is thriving in prosperity and luxury.

[27:7]  2 tn The form is the Hitpolel participle from קוּם (qum): “those who are rising up against me,” or “my adversary.”

[27:7]  3 tc The LXX made a free paraphrase: “No, but let my enemies be as the overthrow of the ungodly, and they that rise up against me as the destruction of transgressors.”

[6:1]  4 sn Psalm 6. The psalmist begs the Lord to withdraw his anger and spare his life. Having received a positive response to his prayer, the psalmist then confronts his enemies and describes how they retreat.

[6:1]  5 tn The meaning of the Hebrew term שְׁמִינִית (shÿminit, “sheminith”) is uncertain; perhaps it refers to a particular style of music. See 1 Chr 15:21.

[6:1]  6 sn The implication is that the psalmist has sinned, causing God to discipline him by bringing a life-threatening illness upon him (see vv. 2-7).

[35:26]  7 tn Heb “may they be embarrassed and ashamed together, the ones who rejoice over my harm.”

The psalmist is calling down judgment on his enemies.

[53:6]  9 tn This refers metonymically to God, the one who lives in Zion and provides deliverance for Israel.

[53:6]  10 tn Heb “turns with a turning [toward] his people.” The Hebrew term שְׁבוּת (shÿvut) is apparently a cognate accusative of שׁוּב (shuv).

[53:6]  12 tn Because the parallel verb is jussive, this verb, which is ambiguous in form, should be taken as a jussive as well.

[109:29]  17 tn Heb “clothed.” Another option is to translate the prefixed verbal forms in this line and the next as jussives (“may my accusers be covered with shame”).

[132:18]  18 tn Heb “his enemies I will clothe [with] shame.”
